@panzer_vor2: The battle of the bulge | The Battle of the Bulge (16 December 1944 – 25 January 1945) was the last major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II. Launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of Belgium, Luxembourg, and northeastern France, the operation was intended to split the Allied lines, capture the port of Antwerp, and encircle four Allied armies, potentially forcing a negotiated peace favorable to Germany. Codenamed Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein (“Operation Watch on the Rhine”) by the German high command, the offensive relied on total surprise, poor flying weather to neutralize Allied air superiority, and the perceived weakness of the thinly defended Ardennes sector, which the Allies considered a quiet zone unsuitable for large-scale armor operations. AH personally directed much of the planning, overriding the objections of several senior commanders who considered the goals unrealistic given Germany’s dwindling reserves of fuel, manpower, and armor. | #fyp #edit #war #ww2 #ww2edit
