Yesterday my son got so upset because I was trying to show him a skill he was having trouble with, rolling a toothpick on a paper. I explained to him how, and when I asked he started crying and he said sorry mom I stop paying attention because I was *Zoning out* “I hate my brain mom!” He cried so sad and in so much pain, so I told him it’s okay. Because it’s just a little part of his brain that got distracted with something else. That his eyes were on me and that even if he doesn’t know I know his ears were paying attention. And I kept giving examples of how his brain works and has worked. I assured him he has a brilliant-smart brain. He kept crying because he said his brain is weird. So I told him those are emotions that are strong and valid, that is okay to feel that way, but to appreciate his brain. We did some exercises, did his experiment he was doing, he managed to roll the toothpick on paper, and he learned about strong emotions and that is okay to love and appreciate his brain, his heart his emotions, all of himself.
