It was pseudoscience meant to “shake the weight” off of people, mostly fat people, and marketed mostly to women. The idea was that you could stand there and the machine would do the cardio for you. It was beyond stupid.

I noticed a lot of this stuff was marketed towards women because people didn’t really think women should work out with vigorous exercise or weights . Even up into the early 2000s i remember older women telling me that women shouldn’t play sports or lift weights because it would make you infertile . 🙃
