I am a huge fan of Kathy Bates. As I watched this, it made me tear up. The “thank you” at the end sums up the type of person she is, absolutely wonderful and grateful for her life. I’m willing to bet that her relationship with her mother was the driving force for being so successful at her craft. Her comment of her mother should have had her life speaks volumes of the love Kathy has for her mother, no matter how difficult it was.

The look on her face is heartbreaking. She’s held guilt for years over something she never did.

poor Kathy, lived here entire adult life with guilt caused by her abusive mother. to have that big moment of guilt released must have felt so releaving. Parents dont need to be thanked for the bare minimum. and they dont need to be thanked for your own achievements

my mom always made me feel like outsider. she always care about older brother because he was the only boy and care so much about my baby sister because she was the baby but she never said anything about me 😭💔💔💔💔💔

As a mother I cannot imagine putting this much pain on your child that they not only carry it into adulthood but throughout adulthood and into the age of retirement. You know that shame and guilt came from her mother berating her for not thanking her. (When in reality she did). She was so full of guilt she never went back and watched her acceptance speech, instead believed her mother and carried that for years. I could never imagine doing that to a child, much less my own daughters whom I would be proud of when they accomplish anything they have worked hard for. Her mother should have been ashamed for the way she treated her daughter.

I had the best Mom. My biggest cheerleader and my greatest inspiration on all that I could be as a Mom and grandmother one day. She wasnt perfect and never pretended to be. Smoked like a chimney and cursed like a sailor but she was the best woman I ever knew.

My mom and I had a difficult relationship. When I was young, I was a problem for her because my bio father died and she “had to” get married because of me. We had a few good years in my early 20’s. By the time I turned 30, she was very resentful of my career, and grew to hate my dad (who was wonderful to me, and became a really good grandpa). By the time I was 45 she absolutely loathed me, my dad and my son. She was such an unhappy woman. Any achievement I had was belittled.

She believed she didn’t thank her is the reason her mom was nasty and not happy for her accomplishment. She reasoned with it in hear own mind to make it make sense 🥹

She’s still trying to make excuses in her head as to why her mom was so cruel because us with empathy can not understand narcissism very well

I lived in 3 foster homes and a children’s home. I didn’t speak to or see my mother for 12 years before she died. I didn’t shed a tear when I heard the news. I spent my entire childhood grieving for the mother I needed. Why would I cry when she died?
