Respiratory therapy here - a trach isn’t always forever! It’s definitely a scary decision to make, and it’s important to discuss what works for the patient and family! But I wish when they talked to families about trachs, they would stress that the trach isn’t always forever! It can really help with quality of life and allow bigger strides with rehabilitation. Good job being strong advocates for your dad 🫶🏼

Trachs can be temporary. And are a very good treatment option for patients that need a little more time to recover!

My dad had to get a trach after severe sepsis and couldn’t get off the vent. It was the best thing we did and thankfully they were able to remove it like 2 months later.

I am also a cardiac arrest survivor. My heart stopped numerous times. Cardiac arrest. and I suffered an anoxic brain injury as well. My issues are in no way close to what your father is experiencing but I’m struggling so much. He’s so fortunate to have you helping him! I know it’s exhausting! 😳
