Music Is Not a Prison. I’ve been asked this question many times: “Do I have to stick to one genre to become a successful artist?” Here’s my answer. No. Explore. Write the pop song. Write the jazz song. Write the country song. Write the R&B song. When you listen back, you’ll probably discover that you are in every one of them. Your musical fingerprint doesn’t disappear just because the genre changes. One of the things I admire about artists like SZA is how fearlessly she moves between styles. She follows the music instead of trying to fit inside a box. And that’s the point. Why do we make music? To be free. Free like a child who creates without worrying about the rules. Free like a bird that sees an open sky instead of invisible walls. Don’t put your own creativity in a cage before the world ever has a chance to hear it. Create. Release. Learn. Grow.
