she is defending the system that allowed him and his mother to be enslaved and I find people rarely acknowledge that. Anakin's fall is way more compelling if you actually think about why he feels the way he does. Padme doesn't believe forcing a planet to abide by your laws is correct even if that planet has a slave trade. Anakin believes slave trading is wrong and someone should've done something so he is easily groomed into being that someone since even his own wife believes "it's not their problem". they are both flawed due to their upbringing as she is biased towards the status quo set up in phantom menace while Anakin's trauma and the Jedi's lack of care leaves him vulnerable to be groomed. this is an amazing representation of how young boys with trauma get manipulated by other men searching for power. the world ignores it until they become dangerous and then they paint them as always having been evil because if they acknowledge how much of a role they played in their fall it would mean they aren't the "perfect victim". the original trilogy is all about how Vader is painted by the entire universe as this ultimate evil but Luke and Luke alone saw Anakin as a human with feelings, thoughts, and emotions. Luke is who Padme should have been but her political upbringing hinders her understanding of Anakin while Luke's farmer boy upbringing helps him understand him more than anyone else can. no one is born evil. they are neglected then used only to then use others when it's their turn as that's how they are forced to believe the world works. Even Palpatine wasn't born evil he was also groomed by Plagueis. it's a cycle Luke broke by being loving and empathetic. The very thing the Jedi thought was weakness in Anakin was actually his salvation finally realized through his son.
