Why would anyone move that many times? Is this normal?

As someone who is about to move for the 17th time - declutter before you move! Use your move to start over, don’t bring anything you no longer want or need to your new space.

take a look at your daily routine and identify the key items you use and pack them in a separate box. that way you can still go about your regular life with the essentials you need even if you haven't unpacked fully

JM :
When you go to unpack, always do everyday essentials in the bathroom first and THEN make your bed ASAP. After an exhausting day of moving you will be too tired to make it (been there)

When I move the dresser, I take out the drawers and wrap plastic around them. It's a waste to pack clothes in boxes when you're going to take the dresser with you anyway

A good tip a family member told me was move the bed last from old place but put it in first in new place and make it that way you have a bed to go to when things are done for the day

if fatigue is an issue for you, give yourself a stupid low minimum bar to pack every day until moving day. I had 3 months until moving day, that was a whole 90 days. I packed 1 box a day. often I did 2-3 anyway once I got started, and felt safe that I had "earned" a day off in those extra boxes if my energy failed me.

I write the number of boxes I have like (bathroom 1/5) and have a list of all the boxes with what’s inside on a separate folder.

I like to pack an “first days necessities” small suitcase or box to make my life easier. In there I usually have 2 clean towels (face and shower) a beautycase with hygene essentials, pjs, slippers and 4 complete outfits (socks, underwear and the rest) plus chargers and a book. This way I don’t have to go hunt for what I need during the first day or two.

Change your duvet cover and pillows and put in one of those jumbo carry bags so you have clean bed in a recognisable bag when you get there and first job is always to sort the bed and bedroom curtains.

As someone who has moved 11 times and works in removals. Just throw everything into boxes and hope for the best 😂

I don't know if it's the issue in any other country than where I am from, but moving boxes are not sturdy enough. Go to alcohol shops and ask them if they have any boxes. They tend to have the most sturdiest ones I have ever encountered.

I write the priority low, medium or high on each box. Unpack the high priority boxes first, medium next and low priority last

Open up a large cardboard box and lay it on the stairs to slide boxes down 📦 saves going up and down a 1000 times

If you’ve chucked the original boxes for glasses/plates, IKEA have carry boxes for shoppers that you can take. And their big blue bags are great for hauling random stuff that doesn’t fit in a box

Pack your (hanging) clothes in (clean new) trashbags! Just go from underneath the clothes, wrap on top and tadaa. You can do at least 5-7 pieces at once using only one bag and immediately hang them again in the new closet. No need to take everything off hangers, fold etc.

Unpack your bedroom first! We had a mammoth day doing the final packing, moving and then unpacking our living room only to get to the end of the day and find we had no kitchen to make dinner in and nowhere to sleep 😂 first night in our new home ended up being a night in a nearby hotel 🤦🏻♀️
