@dylandeckislost: 148 - in order to heal and move forward you need to have corrective experience. Insight alone is not enough to re-wire years of conditioning. Your brain will always choose a familiar hell over an unfamiliar heaven! Video completely inspired by @Hottytot, she is amazing please go and watch all of her videos including her one on corrective experiences! #psychology #correctiveexperience #therapy #attachmentstyle #LearnOnTikTok

You can intellectualise your way around a wound forever. Eventually your nervous system needs proof that the world has changed

Solo travelling is one I’ve found useful. It has helped me experience freedom instead of control, has allowed me to rely on myself and to feel competent instead of helpless

I feel like I’m stuck in a perpetual cycle of going back to familiar experiences, suffering, trying to heal and have corrective experiences but getting stuck in the old patterns again because that’s what keep attracting 😭

This is why “don’t be in a relationship until you are fully healed” is pretty unhelpful. Relational trauma is healed in safe enough relationship. Heal enough to take accountability for your own trauma, and then go ahead and take those relational risks with safe enough people to get that corrective experience!

Hence why environments are so important to curate. They’re evidence of your mood, responses, behaviors etc. once you analyze your experiences and or lack there of you will let go of familiarity and embrace adventure.

This is so true. I am a super risk averse person and realized it was fueled by fear of rejection. So I started micro dosing rejection in my life by intentionally taking small risks and having taking the risk be the goal itself instead of the outcome. After ~1.5 years everything in my life feels different … my job, health, life satisfaction, and relationships are all healthier but most importantly my relationship with myself! I stopped rejecting myself by allowing myself to be ok with been seen, rejected, regulating, and being ok afterwards😁❤️

This. Some wounds, like relational ones, don’t heal in a vacuum. Your nervous system needs new safe experiences. There is nuance to this of course, but I tend to agree

If others can’t be safe for you at this time, be the safe person to yourself. Set your boundaries, take yourself to a fun experience, be the person you consider to be safe.

Trauma therapist here. Exactly this! That’s why I always start with nervous system regulation and somatic techniques. Body brain connection is everything if you want to truly heal!

As someone with a agoraphobia, I really struggle with this, because every experience that has the potential to be a corrective experience also has the potential to re-traumatize me. I cannot anticipate when I’m going to have a panic attack in any given situation. So even though I may have experiences where everything works out, and I have a good time and I don’t panic, the potential still exists that I can do a very similar activity another time and it will trigger a panic attack. Therefore, the anticipatory anxiety that I experience going into a situation never really goes away. It always feels like a coin flip.

Unfortunatly if real life slaps you with repetetive bad experiences and when you try to have different ones you get slapped with more of that, you kinda just conclude its all bad

This also goes for leaving people who cannot change their perception of you. They’ll always reinforce the old model and never allow you to fully step into a healthier identity

This is part of what a psychologist does within the therapeutic relationship - they attempt to find patterns of behaviours in your relationships and they try and offer corrective experiences within the dynamic
