@whatannachievement: I should have added that this is very much from a UK perspective and some of the things I say may not hold true for other countries, but hopefully the concepts are still helpful for anyone who struggles with feeding themself. #neurodivergent #disability #accessibility #foodhacks #eatinghacks
i find having things like a rice cooker, slow cooker and airfryer (toaster oven) help allot. things that you can set and forget as the case maybe takes the mental load off. i can put 2 cups of rice in the rice cooker push the button and go back to something that i enjoy after setting a 30 min timer. and then come back and scoop some out and add some small bits. recently i got a rotisarie chicken and a hiney maple ham (yes i live in canada) and cubed them all up on a day i had the motivation. that plus the rice is a filling yummy meal which only takes scoop a bit of this and that into a container and nuke. plus things like a toaster oven don't put off as much heat as the oven but give the same results and it's 30°c in my house because it's summer so those things were i can just pop out of the cool room for a few min make all the difference

Idk what countries they deliver to, but factor meals were super tasty for me! I actually really enjoyed most of them, especially the ratatouille!

The best bit of food advice I ever got was: PAY THE ADHD TAX UP FRONT. Yes the pre cut fruit and veggies are more expensive. The whole mango rotting in your fridge is more expensive. And ignore all society fridge rules. Anything perishable DIRECTLY AT EYE LEVEL. Treats and sauces in the fruit and veggies drawer.

you may also be able to get meals on wheels, thats what i do a few days a week! the issue is that they only deliver mid day so you have to be home. but it avoids grocery shopping and gives you a warm fresh meal

For the “literally zero effort food” section may I suggest that a LOT of vegetables can be eaten raw as long as you clean them once after they’re entered your house? I usually do this after groceries (because I’m already doing something): carrots, cucumber, courgettes, lettuce, bell peppers, radshes, sweet and sour onions, tomatoes, you name it.

a surprisingly good option for those of us who often cant get out of bed is meal drinks. they're pretty nutritionally balanced and the flavour variety is pretty good. they also dont need to be put in the fridge so you can just keep them by your bed. they do tend to be a bit costly tho.

Another trick I've got is when I can cook a meal, I make 4 portions.
Eat 1, put the other 3 portions in individual tupperware tubs in the freezer with a sticky label on declaring the meal inside and the date it was made.
This way I have healthy ready meals that just need defrosting and reheating, aka microwaving for about ½ hour!

Perfect that I'm watching this in the kitchen, drinking a glass of chocolate milk that I'm hoping will suffice until I can imagine what food is today.

My husband and I are going through a phase of extended burnout at the moment for multiple reasons, and we've been feeling bad about relying on 'easy' meals like ready meals/frozen food/tinned food. This video feels validating and I think is really useful advice for keeping fed during difficult times, so thank you!

im a big fan of giant pot of curry. chuck in vegetables and a protein. i get curry seasoning packs at the grocery store and chuck that in too. freezes well too if i cant finish it quickly enough. just microwave to reheat. i make like 4-6 portions like that.

Also if you have a microwave… get the microwaveable popcorn. it’s literally the easiest and most fun thing to cook if you have zero motivation to cook anything.

nice to hear other people not getting on with hello fresh etc. Every meal takes an hour, there's a ton of chopping/prep to do, there's a thousand fucking packets and an A4 page on instructions - THAT IS NOT LOW EFFORT!

I like making "fridge pasta" which is just pasta with whatever ingredients you find in the fridge. It doesn't matter that "that doesn't go in past" because it does now
and second is "deconstructed sandwich" which is all the ingredients for a sandwich on a plate. not put together.
also YES frozen already done meals are a lifesaver during my low energy days. always try and have at least a frozen pizza at home just in case.

I make a very large snack plate with lots of pre packaged stuff, including fruit and veg. I eat as much as I want and then put it in the fridge. It means I don't have to keep getting multiple items of food out, and there's just one plate to wash when I eventually finish it.

One of my biggest problems is that after I've made the meal (be it a sandwich or dinner), I'm often spent and have no energy/will left to eat the food, so it's just there on the table or whatever until it goes bad and I throw it away. :/
Or it starts to gross me the fuck out the second it's done, and before I've had a chance to taste it. :):
I throw so much eatable food in the food garbage …
