The apartment door opened. A pillow immediately hit Karina in the face. Hard. "Ow!" The pillow dropped onto the floor. Karina slowly looked up. Winter sat on the couch. Arms crossed. Leg crossed. Expression blank. Not angry. Not yelling. Just calm. Dangerously calm. Karina looked at the clock. 12:18 AM. "...I'm sleeping on the couch." "Good." Karina winced. Yep. Definitely sleeping on the couch. "Baby, I can explain." "No." "It wasn't what it looked like." "No." "It wasn't a date." "No." Karina sighed. This was going badly already. Winter picked up the remote. Turned on the TV. Ignored her existence. Karina stood there awkwardly. "Minjeong." Nothing. "Love." Nothing. "Wife." Nothing. "I brought cheesecake." Winter finally looked at her. "I can buy another cheesecake." Then looked back at the TV. Karina knew she was doomed. The next morning was worse. Winter made breakfast. One plate. One cup. One person. Karina sat across from her. "Good morning." Silence. "Minjeong." Silence. "I miss you." Winter drank her coffee. Karina put her forehead on the table. "This is emotional abuse." Winter stood up. Grabbed her bag. And left for work. Without kissing her goodbye. That evening she came home carrying flowers, cheesecake, and Winter's favorite coffee. Winter opened the door. Looked at everything. Then at Karina. Then walked away. Winter sat on the couch. Ignoring her again. Karina put everything on the table. "Baby." Nothing. "Minjeong." Nothing. "Please talk to me." Winter finally spoke. "How was Han Sua?" Karina froze. There it was. The real issue. "It was fine." Winter nodded. "Good." "That's it?" "That's it." "That's somehow scarier." Winter looked at her. Karina didn't let go. "That came out wrong." "It always does." For a moment neither spoke. Then Winter looked down. "You said you'd be home by seven." Karina's stomach dropped. "I know." "I made dinner." Silence. "It got cold." Karina looked away. "I called." Silence. "I texted." Silence. "I checked my phone every few minutes." Karina felt awful. Winter laughed softly. Not happily. "I felt stupid." "Minjeong..." "My wife was having dinner with a beautiful actress." Karina immediately shook her head. "It wasn't like that." "I know." Karina blinked. "You know?" Winter rolled her eyes. "You're hopeless." "What?" "You can't flirt." Karina looked offended. "I can." "No." "I can." "You accidentally thanked a mannequin for holding a jacket." "It looked real." Winter almost smiled. Karina noticed immediately. "That was almost a smile." "Don't push your luck." Karina moved closer. This time Winter didn't move away. "I should've called." "Yes." "I should've updated you." "Yes." "I should've come home earlier." "Very yes." Karina took both her hands. Winter let her. "Babe." Silence. "There is no Han Sua problem." Winter looked down. "There isn't?" "No." "Then what's the problem?" Karina squeezed her hands. "The problem is that I was an idiot." Winter snorted. "A huge idiot." "A massive idiot." Karina smiled. "See? You're talking to me again." Winter rolled her eyes. But she didn't let go. "I hate waiting for you." "I know." "I hate feeling forgotten." "I know." "And I hate seeing somebody else get your time when I've been waiting all evening." Karina immediately wrapped her arms around her. Winter finally relaxed against her. "I love you." Silence. "I love you." Winter sighed. "I know." "Only you." "I know." "My favorite person." "I know." "My wife." "I know." Finally. Winter smiled. A real one. The first in two days. Karina kissed her forehead. "Am I forgiven?" "A little." "A little?" "A very little." Karina laughed. Winter stood up. "Couch." Karina stared. "What?" "Couch." "You forgave me." "Couch." "Baby." "Couch." Winter walked toward the bedroom. Then turned around. She grabbed Karina's shirt and kissed her quickly. Just once. Then let go. Karina blinked. Winter pointed toward the living room.
