Why does vitamin b1 take so long to come back in blood work? Why isn’t every state able to check it in there lab and why isn’t it a mandatory lab on all ages since it can kill you???

As a person who has a thiamine deficiency it’s not a test that’s done often. It’s a hard blood test to do and often done incorrectly. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to remind the office staff that I can’t see daylight and you have to wrap the vial before you draw the blood.

I believe it and have experienced it to an extent. My daughter had severe congenital heart defects and required multiple long hospitalizations. During her hospitalizations, I stayed at her bedside Almost 24/7 usually only a small meal or snack once a day it was during covid and they were not bringing meal trays for the parents to the rooms. There were so many extra steps to make it down to the small cafe that I just didn't go.

An elderly couple I knew the husband had Alzheimer’s and after he passed she only lasted 5 months. My friend was caring for her mom and her own family. Now she’s on the kidney donor list. Caregivers think they’re ok because they get so disconnected from themselves. And the ones who k ow something is wrong don’t have the bandwidth to argue with their own doctors to diagnose them. That bucket is empty having been used up as a caregiver for someone else

This is a system issue. No provider dropped the ball, because she was never assigned a provider to look after her well-being. Hopefully her case will bring more attention such that the system does better. We can’t rely on individuals to catch things like that (either the patients or the son’s providers).

There needs to be a set of caregivers diagnosis codes, with set treatments to prevent this.

IMO hospitals should feed one parent to avoid this. they usually only do this for infants in my experience but feeding the parent helps the child.

Can see that happening. My daughter has Down syndrome and when she’s in the hospital I’ve learned to shut down hunger and focus on her. This is so sad🥰

Stellagate ganglion block helps at times like this. Extreme stress/trauma can cause our nervous system to get stuck in flight or fight. Even if you eat it may not digest and absorb properly. Trust me, I know. Don’t wait, get help.
