Thank you for this video. You are doing amazing work. Can you talk specifically in a video about helping our neurodivergent kids fit in? My son is in gen ed classroom but has ASD, adhd, and anxiety. He wants friends so badly but does struggle with emotional regulation and I know it’s impacting his relationships. We do so much outside of school to help him (ABA, speech, play therapy) and I just want the best for him and for him to be happy and not a target.

100%!! I advocated super early at 4 and everyone told me he was fine and I shouldn'tdo it. Now he's thriving with his iep.

Thank you for this, you are pretty accurate. Our experience was horrid, we were continuously gaslit. Our child had an IEP, they were not following protocol and or didn’t minimum. As an active parent at the school I saw it first hand. The IEP was much more harm than good in this particular school, taking our child out of class to do nothing. In hindsight I should have sued and donated the money to a non profit school that is deserving.

My son is severe nonverbal ASD- still in diapers at 9. I do not trust public school to take care of him, and not abuse him, especially bc he’s nonverbal and can’t tell me. Where we live we’ve had too many paras abuse kids with disabilities. I’m not taking the risk, we homeschool instead. On the flip side we also have a child with hearing loss, he has an IEP and attends private. He had an amazing year last year bc of his wonderful teacher!!

she is so right. especially if a teacher is not tenured or at an at will school without a union....they get pushback from admin and say wait and see

This was so helpful. Can you make a video talking about the specific things we can ask to be included in our child’s iep that make a difference in their school success? Especially for middle and high schoolers.

There are so many private schools for neurodivergent kiddos now! They employ specialists and I think that is generally a better fit than a standard teacher. (No shade just reality from my experience!)

What do you think about public school vs schools specifically for those with autism/intellectual disabilities? My child is nonverbal with level 3 autism and just want the best of course 😥 it’s a tough journey ahead!

As a IEP mom of a kindergartener, yes ADVOCATE for your child. No one will have their best interest at heart like you do! Mommas have to be vocal about our child’s needs.

I was highly involved in my son’s elementary K-5th PTA, executive board, room mom, you name it. It wasn’t until my son transitioned to 6th grade that I started received emails re: his behavior. The frequency became very concerning. I had him evaluated by 2 different professionals. He’s ADHD Combined. I texted his teachers from elementary and they were like duhhh. Anywho! I have no idea how to advocate. I need to know what accommodations. I feel terrible for my son.

I’m being told the 504 evaluation process will begin after a few weeks of school. Does my son need an IEP? He’s ADHD. In middle school, he went from being student leadership president, being very well liked and athletic to having VERY low self esteem. He was recently diagnosed ADHD. He’s in counseling. Do I need to request an IEP?
