So there is an Important distinction between lucidity and Post awareness stages, in the First instance the Patient is still fully consciously Fighting the condition, being aware of it's existence and effects. From Stage 4 onwards, we enter Post awareness, the victim cant connect the two dots that the reason they lose Track of past Events and even their present thoughts is their condition - Dementia. The day of diagnosis which poses the highest significance Peak in regards to any metacognitive Memory of having the condition is suffocated by the deletion line. Therefore the Patients mind continues Fighting on a fully different Layer than Prior, the subconscious Takes over. The bare instincts driven by the Amygdala continue the relentless Battle.
