I woke up feeling so damn emotional. A culmination of feelings. The last few years I have shielded myself from hatred or anger from others. So, it’s taken me quite aback to see a lot of the hatred I have been receiving lately in my comments sections. All because I am single at 40 years old. And it’s not just a few comments, it’s thousands. This is why women are always scared of aging & revealing their age. This is why I was scared. I post to inspire people and to let them know they aren’t alone. After years of dating and/or being in relationships, I really needed to just be with myself. Y’all, I have been in more relationships then I have been single, I have been proposed to 3 times in my life, and was close to marriage once. But I’ve chosen being single rather than being in a toxic relationship. And for the women reading this that are scared of turning older, I want to let you know that there’s still options even at 40! I still get asked out, so just because you are older, it doesn’t mean life just stops. It’s perfectly ok to want to be single. To want to grow and learn about yourself before diving into a relationship. This video was from my 40th birthday. I had just ended an engagement, was about to turn 40, and feeling absolutely sorry for myself. The part you don’t see, is my mom in my van with me doing a Buddhist ceremony to bless me and my van. The second half, is me meditating afterward, but then falling to pieces crying with my dog comforting me. There was so much fear there. As I near my next birthday, I want to remind myself of the work I have done this last year, to be that stronger woman that I have worked hard to be, and to not be afraid of aging. I am still hopeful to one day get married and maybe even having human kiddos of my own. Until then I am that proud dog & cat lady. I am sad today, but it’s not for myself. It’s for the generations before me who have had it harder and the generations younger than me who are conditioned to believe that we women are only whole if we are married with kids by a certain age. #vanlife #fyp #singleladies #40s
