@matthias.dangl: We spent 7 days in Mangystau and I already knew it was going to be special. But on day 1 we drove 4 hours on a desert road without a single other car passing by. Just camels and horses. Roadtrips that remote make it feel much more like an adventure. The next 4 days the roads didn't change, but the landscapes did. From the colorful Tiramisu mountains to a place that honestly didn't feel like this planet. Barely any other travelers. With over 40°C during the day we were actually lucky to spend so much time in the car. Only from 11pm it cooled down to around 20°C, good enough to camp under the milky way. The big final was Tuzbair, a salt flat. This time of year it's usually dry, but it had rained a lot the day before. So we were lucky to not only get a reflecting water surface, it also turned pink, which doesn't always happen. If you're looking for a vacation spot, this isn't it.
