@dr.chad.md: A lithopedion, or “stone baby,” is an extremely rare phenomenon that occurs when a pregnancy develops outside the uterus (usually in the abdomen), the fetus dies, and is too large for the body to reabsorb. To protect itself from infection, the body gradually deposits calcium around the fetal tissue, essentially turning it into a “stone.” 📌 Fewer than 400 cases have been documented in medical literature. 📌 Some lithopedions have remained undetected for decades before being discovered incidentally on imaging or during surgery. 📌 Today, advances in prenatal care and imaging make this condition exceptionally rare. Medicine never ceases to amaze. Cases like this highlight the body’s remarkable ability to adapt in extraordinary circumstances. #Lithopedion #StoneBaby #Medicine #MedicalFacts #HumanBody

I would keep it honestly, in some sort of specimen jar because if I had a baby with me for years I wouldn’t wanna throw it in the trash to someone to pick it apart.

And with abortion laws not allowing to remove unviable fetuses, this will happen more often

As someone who’s had an eptopic pregnancy and it almost killed me by bursting my falopian tube (tube, ovary and baby removed) this is insane.

Medical question:
If the mothers body is encasing the fetus in calcium because it's too large to reabsorb, would this cause the mother to be low in free calcium? We know the importance of calcium in bones and cardiac muscle function. I'm wondering if this effects these at all.
