@qnewstonight: LGBTQ Issues Shaped 2026 FIFA World Cup With Pride Match, Fan Boycott, And Safety Concerns. Football’s biggest tournament also became a focal point for LGBTQ+ issues during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The tournament’s first designated Pride match, featuring Iran and Egypt in Seattle, drew international attention because of both countries’ records on LGBTQ+ rights. While FIFA said it did not designate an official Pride match, the Seattle World Cup host committee designated the Group G match as the first-ever Pride match. FIFA also permitted rainbow flags inside stadiums under its tournament code of conduct. Safety concerns also prompted some LGBTQ+ supporters to stay away. England’s LGBTQ+ fan group, Three Lions Pride, announced it would not attend the tournament, citing concerns about the safety of openly LGBTQ+ fans traveling to the United States.
