I read that Japanese (maybe german?) soldiers became discouraged when they saw that cigs and chocolate were included in supply drops

Material abundance is such a drastic understatement. The city of Pittsburgh alone produced more steel throughout WW2 than all of the Axis powers combine. At the height of production we were completing about 45 ships per month, dedicating our older ships to producing ice cream, and could get baked goods across the ocean so fast they were still fresh. Dictators always believe that some "moral righteousness" will carry them to victory. In reality the only thing that really matters is logistics and production.

impressed with the smart war the Americans waged .

They did it because of what they watched the Marines do, not what they heard they did

I’m disappointed because the American soldier pulled the grenade pin with his teeth. It is very inaccurate and for a war show, it is inaccurate.

a facade of superiority genuinely means nothing in the face of absolute, overwhelming industrial might.
its for this same reason that the modern US perhaps has more to worry about than they think lol.

Just an absurd critique. Europe was spiritually empty. The American church was at its height at this time. Communities were strong. Mainline churches had almost a monopoly on institutions. The abundance was a consequence of that

My great grandpa had tons of stories about fighting the Japanese he said they were insanely disciplined like soldiers would play dead for days and then attack when they thought they had a chance

It's always funny hearing about how other countries responded to how American soldiers fought in WWII. By all accounts we were madmen with artillery never too far.

I don’t blame them. I really can’t blame them. The Japanese lied to its citizens and they believed it. In that situation, I would too. Propaganda kills.
