Today, thanks to legal protection and conservation, their numbers have recovered to an estimated 3,300–3,500 wolves across Italy. One of Europe’s greatest wildlife success stories. But the fight isn’t over. This year, at least 18 wolves were killed in a suspected mass poisoning in an Italian national park. Poison doesn’t just kill wolves—it also kills foxes, birds of prey, other scavengers, pets and countless non-target wildlife. The answer isn’t persecution. Farmers need greater support to live alongside wolves through livestock guardian dogs, electric fencing and fair compensation, making coexistence possible. The problem is also the threat to humans: recently a wolf entered a urban park in a central italian town where it grabbed a 4 years old girl and tried to drag her away to the bushes before the adults rescued her.

I lupi in Italia sono decine di migliaia, non quanto dicono le associazioni. Sono diventati troppi e vanno ridotti di numero perché fanno danni enormi e perché sono diventati pericolosi per l’uomo, difatti hanno attaccato parecchie persone anche bambini. Da noi, in Aspromonte, ci sono sempre stati ma anche qua sono diventati troppi.
