The Kodokan workout reflects the traditional conditioning system used in judo training and developed at the Kodokan Judo Institute in Tokyo, the birthplace of modern judo. Founded in 1882 by Jigoro Kano, the Kodokan emphasized balanced development of the body and mind. Training was designed not only to improve physical strength but also to build discipline, coordination, and efficient movement. A typical Kodokan-style session often begins with warm-up drills that include rolling, crawling, and mobility exercises. Crawling movements help strengthen the shoulders, core, and hips while improving balance and body control on the mat. These drills are especially useful for ground techniques, known in judo as newaza. Explosive jumping exercises are also common. Movements such as squat jumps or dynamic entries help athletes develop the leg power needed to execute throws quickly and effectively. Because judo techniques rely on speed, timing, and leverage, explosive strength is essential. Partner-based exercises are another important part of training. Instead of relying heavily on machines, judoka often use each other for resistance through drills such as carries, grip training, and controlled throwing practice. One key technical drill is nagekomi, where practitioners perform full throws with a partner to develop power and precision. Training also includes randori, or free sparring, where athletes apply their techniques against resisting partners. Overall, the Kodokan workout is more than conditioning. It represents Kano’s philosophy of continuous improvement, discipline, and mutual benefit through training. #fyp #viral #judo #tradition #sport
