The ones in Brooklyn were sealed and rediscovered in 1861. The subway tunnels of NY were rediscovered and for pictures NYC Public library has digital images and the NYC Transit Museum has archives and photos. Just take a trip and see for yourself. Check out the history of Cobble Hill while you’re at it
