we didn't have a room they turn a bathroom into one for us. Now that we are in a New building that was one of the 1st things they added.

At my work we have to scan our badges to enter the Mothers Room and only woman or the Janitors/maintenance workers that have access to the room can enter. I’m so thankful that my work is so professional about mothers that need the room.

This literally made me cry. My pumping journey ended early when I went back to work for this exact situation. Someone found out about the one room that had a lock on it (mind you it was the storage closet) and started to use it as their personal break room. Their breaks became more frequent because they were “dealing with personal issues” and ask me to be more compassionate. I started to get less time and felt rushed. It sucks to know that this is a common issue. So sorry you are having to go through this!

I would definitely request a lock and key be put on that lactation room door and the key should only be given out by HR to mothers who request it and they should have extra available just in case someone forgets a key. Or they could put a badge reader and add women who need it to the system so they can use it and be removed when they are no longer pumping/breast feeding if badges are used in the office.

That’s why our room is badge access only. Next time it happens, just make Boss aware you’ll hold them and the company liable if you get mastitis for interfering with your pumping.

I worked with a guy that used the room and was making out with someone. The woman that was nursing tried to use it he just told her that they wouldn’t look. So she came to floor upset and told us what happened. I got up and lost it on it on both of them. The senior director came out of his office and was like what is happening. When we all told our stories, he just looked at me and went well we could have handled it without the yelling but you’re not wrong.

Stop telling them you’re not trying to make it difficult. Did they think that when they were intruding on your schedule? No, if they’re going to make things difficult for you you’ll make it just as difficult for them. As somebody who is going through a medical problem myself and my boss is trying to sit here and use the fact that I’m leaving work early as a excuse to cut my hours without a conversation I’m gonna make his life extremely difficult.

I got kicked out of my house (recently) and wasn’t able to grab my pumps or have access to my newborn and had to go 4 days without pumping

This happened to me all the time. We had one mother's room at work. People were using it for breaks, meetings, lunch.
