40 years in the industry never used soap … and you don’t tape with topping .

no especially on tape coats, and never use a topping mud for tapping regardless of the tape. general purpose or tapping muds have a glue in them that topping muds dont . hot muds are also acceptable for tapping. after tap it really doesn't matter soap or not in my opinion but many say it weakens the mud
