@gricgreat: If your pigs could talk, would they beg you to leave the water on at night? Personally, I don’t recommend it. Pigs need access to clean drinking water 24 hours a day, not just during the day. Water isn’t only for quenching thirst. It’s essential for digestion, regulating body temperature, milk production in lactating sows, and overall health. A pig may become thirsty at any time during the night, especially if: * The weather is hot. * It’s eating dry feed. * It’s a lactating sow producing milk. * It’s recovering from illness. Restricting water can lead to dehydration, reduced feed intake, poor growth, constipation, lower milk production, and unnecessary stress. If your concern is leaking drinkers or wasted water, fix the drinker or plumbing problem instead of denying pigs access to water. Clean water should be available to pigs at all times.
