I really cannot get a read on where you stand politically. You call yourself a leftist and a liberal in the same breath. You advocate for socialism in this video, but then point to the Nordic model in the comments (an extremely capitalist system). Then, you praise Mamdani as the “political candidate of a lifetime” and then cite his crowning achievement in the comments as balancing the budget. I don’t know why I have to explain this to you, but balancing the NYC budget is not extraordinary nor was it surprising. NYC is required by law every year to balance the budget, and it has been this way since 1975. The fact of the matter is, all previous mayors have done this and any other candidate would’ve done the same. If Mamdani was the only one that could’ve balanced the budget, don’t you think it would’ve been mentioned maybe a single time when he was running? Like come on lol. Now, was this mode of balancing the budget good or bad? I’d say neutral at best. NYC got a huge loan from the state, which the state should fund NYC, but to what extent? The biggest portion of the budget fix comes from delaying late payments on the NYC pension payments for city workers. This just delays and grows the money they will owe in the future. This, combined with all the expensive policies ZM wants to pass, I’d say NYC’s financial situation looks grim. Thankfully, Mamdani’s policies are getting shot down left and right by NYC’s more rational and more fiscally literate advisors. Oddly, this sounds familiar. I’d even say ZM is the third of his kind in recent memory. People championed the same ideals when Bernie and Obama were elected (especially Bernie) saying that the U.S. was undergoing a revolution. However, those two were infamous for not holding up on promises and not getting anything done. Mamdani is following the same path. Overall, I really dislike how the DSA is trying to take the Democrat party’s money and use it to push their populist candidates like ZM. I’d love to talk to you more about this.

Well at least we have plenty of case studies of successful socialism to look forward to. The exact issue with the democrat party is its movement further left. Run a candidate with more moderate views is the only way to get national votes. The undecided national voter will never swing far progressive. Continue to rely on candidates that promise free free free and we'll learn down the road what the real cost of it was.
