When you step back, it was crazy- he had to ask his family, and more to the point he had to ask their senior staff, if he could get psychiatric help for his wife. And when they said no, he had to accept that as the final answer. That’s an insane way to live as an adult man, and an insane thing to experience as an in-law.

If she didn’t marry him she would be doing exactly what she’s doing today and without the trauma

100% would take new money over old money, comes with less strings attached

I’m so proud of Megan, she is relentlessly bullied and keeps a strong head on her shoulders forging a career for herself and her husband.

I think Harry was just as shell shocked as she was. When that’s your family, you’re blind to certain realities because you’ve always been on the inside, and his case, the villain has always been the outside (paparazzi + press) and his way of coping with that was escaping it (military). He met his wife and that wasn’t an escape anymore, it was a real thing that had to be integrated into his real life and only then did he really SEE the system he was in for what it really was. He naively thought his family was a regular family and it was the public that overdramatised what it means to be a royal but in reality, it’s always been a system and for the first time - when it directly affected him internally - he saw and understood what that means.

If she hadn't married him she would be sitting pretty with an influencer/actress empire. She gave all of that up. imagine the trajectory she would have had if she still had The Tig and other stuff she was doing on her own.

if she had married a tech bro she would have never reached the level of fame and notoriety she has now. Meghan clearly enjoys the A-Lister life and marrying into the royal family certainly is a fast pass into that life

Insane that as a man who was seeing a therapist himself and a founder of a mental health charity, couldn’t assist his wife with recommendations.

This is the right take, old money is other people’s money and comes with ties. Also, in many cases, if not always, it’s also dirty money

She wanted old money prestige and new money freedom and you can’t have it both ways. But yes, he failed her completely and I still don’t get how could she not know what working royal meant when he was one when they met and started dating. Was he just not telling her anything about his job essentially???

he always seems a bit lost in the world.
when you look at other royal siblings (spares), they all have careers and identity outside of their family. they'll do some duties etc, but seem a lot more independent & sure of themselves
he never developed that, even now

He could never have anticipated the racism and jealousy Meghan would have faced. in their engagement video, he talked about his confidence in them doing “the job”: philanthropy, service, public speaking…she did that better than anyone in the family straight away.

As much as I can imagine how difficult it might have been as a BIPOC divorcee American dealing with an institution like that, I find it very hard to believe she had no clue about the royal family and how conservative they’d be. Umm the institution is basically founded on colonialism! She had no issue with the fame and money it provided her…🙈
