call centre pricing is not about human $ cost, for a long time now its been about follow up call deflection in order to minimise human cost. When was the last time you hear ld press # to speak to an agent.

IT’S A TRAP! AI providers are operating at a loss which effectively means they’re discounting their tokens. The strategy is to first build dependence by replacing humans w agents then jacking up the cost.

Ignoring for a minute that we’re not at the point where AI agents can genuinely replace programmers, and it’s not clear they will, any analysis that does not consider Jevons Paradox is too shallow. Jevons Paradox seems to strongly suggest the market for software systems expands greatly, and the job of a software engineer becomes managing a fleet of agents. And obviously on top of that we have no idea how costly agents will actually be because we’re in the “let’s set huge piles of money on fire to try to capture the market” phase so the price signals are mostly meaningless (or at least not predictive).

I've used a fair amount of AI. personal use but it seems to me it would be easier to reply the people with the really expensive jobs like management. AI is relatively good at making decisions like that. it's hard to make an ai talk to a person on the phone especially when it's bottle necked by what's available to it for solutions, "hey ai lie to the guy on the phone." however you can feed it all your businesses finances and plans and maybe you don't need that actuary anymore. ai spits out 10 options and the CEO does what it is they were supposed to be doing. idk maybe it's just me

AI and ML advances have been arriving task-by-task for decades. Chess playing software, dictation software, handwriting recognition software… The business argument behind the AGI thing is that it would raise the level of task to ‘replace the average human’ rather than ‘perform a specific function.’ If that’s not going to happen, then there are likely to be a few grossly inflated valuations out there in the market.
