A*pop is more so an album that invites the listener to what the average South African was listening to in 2000s/2010s. The album is a melting pot of probably what Tyla enjoyed best growing up and would have loved to have heard as an album. I believe her aesthetic leans into the fashion and vibe we had South Africans embraced during more 2010s with the neon colours, the chaos. It’s a fun album that feeds into the RnB vibes she likes to dabble in as her voice allows alongside the dance songs that I know I’ll be here at alot of when our spring summer roll around in the southern hemisphere. Granted she played it safe vocally but I can’t say there were too many songs where she could have a big vocal moment but maybe more layering in her songs. She’s still growing and exploring as an artists. I can only hope that the older she gets and with more life experiences, she is able to find a vocal mentor that can help elevate her tone more and build more on production. My girl is definitely a performer so I can’t wow to see how she performs her songs on stages and shows

I think this album is more about diversifying African music genres, she did say that she feels Afro beats is very limiting and I think she just wanted to do a regular pop album that opens the conversation of there being only 1 category for african music

I do think there’s some good songs on their but every time i listen i think “oh wow this should have a bridge.” or “this should’ve had some harmonies.” or “this would’ve sounded good with her going back n forth.” sometimes i think typa needs a vocal producer that’ll help make her songs feel more full
