I think this is ignoring the fact that there are levels. The difficulty of the discussion matters. Football isn't something complex on the surface and most people just talk about surface level things. They don't understand the science behind it. Now you could argue that they aren't educated enough but the problem with this is that, yes football has complexities, but not on the same level as science. Being able to understand scientific essays and theories is on a completely different level than being able to understand why certain tactics work and why others do not. I think depending on how deeply the person understands a topic is a show of intelligence.

i’m lowkey that kid 😅😭 i’m not smarter than most people, i just have very good memory and mostly for random and useless facts about random subjects and can answer some random trivia questions but im no where near as smart as someone who seriously puts in effort to actually learn a subject 😭 maybe it can be seen as smart that “have alot of knowledge” but i don’t think so, its kinda like a jack of all trades master of none type thing

everyone is intelligent when it comes to something they're interested in, even if it's something society or the education system deems as not academic or "useless information", like knowing a lot about a video game or series you like for example, and it won't be seen the same way as knowing a lot about biology or math or history. but the thing is, no matter what society or the school system says, you still have a lot of knowledge, so use it in a way that benefits you and makes you happy

i mean you aint wrong but its got a lil more nuance than that. being knowledgeable in something that can be considered hard to understand or facts that need research to understand the concepts of can be linked to intelligence, but you do make a good point in the idea that if someone really had interest in the topic they could just research it for a long period of time and understand it the same way someone with "intelligence"

There is always nuance to everything. If you understand, can explain to others what you know and maybe implement it irl THEN you are considered smart regardless of how good you are Academically. Chess players are considered geniuses eventho most of them lack basic knowledge of scientific facts(look ts up it was an interview or smth with hikaru in it). Like even people who have heightened senses may be considered smart if they implement it in the right way. Many r6 gamers have insane knowledge and hearing about the game and they are known to be extremely intelligent with their plays. Intelligence isn’t how much you know its how much you understand the thing you do.

this is mostly right but academic interests are usually harder than normal ones nonetheless. a kid who's interested in science and so he memorizes string theory is not the same as a kid who memorized names of football players.
