@nbcnewyork: Mayor Zohran Mamdani shared his thoughts on the stabbing of two men on the Upper West Side, and faced questions as to whether he believed his previous comments calling for the arrest of Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have in any way fueled antisemitism.   "I think, first and foremost, to make clear that there's no tolerance for antisemitism or hatred of any kind in this city," Mamdani responded, adding that his administration is looking to "address the root causes of this bigotry" and to "root out the scourge of antisemitism."   The mayor said his criticisms of Netanyahu are "critiques of him as a political leader, not of people of a specific faith or religion or a background."   Some city officials said Mamdani's previous comments have spurred on antisemitism, at a time when hate crimes have been on the rise in NYC — and half of all confirmed hate crimes in the city so far in 2026 have targeted Jewish people.   "When the mayor of New York repeatedly uses his platform to relentlessly single out and demonize Israel, the world's only Jewish state, and calls those who support it monsters -- he contributes to a climate where Jewish New Yorkers are increasingly targeted and unsafe," said CEO of UJA-Federation of New York, Eric Goldstein.
