I always found her story so much more tragic than Zukos bc every single adult who knew what was happening behind Ozai’s closed doors decided that Zuko was worth saving but Azula wasn’t bc her scars weren’t visible to them…

and if i said that their dynamic perfectly shows how women who adapt in order to survive and need hard shells in order to protect themselves are villainised for doing so and treated as inherently evil, whereas men who have even a sliver of ‘good’ in them are treated like princes with several chances at redemption no matter how many times they make mistakes 🤨

Azula wanted love she believed her mother favored Zuko over her. So she ran to her father for love. The thing about that is Ozai had none to give. In this moment she realized he never really loved or cared for Azula. Azula had no one in that world who loved her at this moment.

She was only fourteen. FOURTEEN at the end of ATLA. She’s a CHILD who’s hurting, and broken, who was favored by a cruel father. He was her ONLY role model after Ursa was forced to flee the palace after poisoning the previous fire lord. Iroh was with Zuko. NO ONE protected that girl.

I feel like everyone points blame in this family except to the actual guy that caused the issue (Ozai). It’s not Azula’s fault she was groomed from birth (Ozai always favored her). It’s not Ursa’s fault that she feared the child that started showing tendencies after her r*pist and abuser. It’s not Zuko’s fault that he wanted to get away himself. It’s not even Iroh’s fault that he got to the child he could (the one that Ozai actively rejected), versus trying to save the child (Azula) that Ozai kept under his wing closely. The only reason Iroh got to Zuko is because Ozai let Zuko get away. It all goes back to Ozai

Gente a Azula ESCOLHEU SER MÁ nas hqs desenho e até o live actor mostra que a Ursa amava os dois igualmente e queria levar os filhos dela para longe do Ozai, o único motivo da gente ver mais ela sendo gentil com o Zuko é pq ele pensa mais nela cara, são as memórias dele, e quando a Azula pensa sobre a mãe e fala dela de maneira distorcida como se ela n se importasse com a própria filha a mente da Azula desmente ela dizendo que não era assim, mas enfim acho toda a história deles muito trágica

Zuko had someone to guide him, help him, teach him, be patient with him, love him for him. She never did, she never felts wanted by her mom, loved by her father, never taught, never guided. Zuko was abandoned by his father but he had his uncle, Azusa was abandoned by both of her parents and had no one.

I think so many of you are forgetting that Zuko wouldn't have been much different if it wasn't for Iroh fighting so hard for him. Their characters are extremely complex and she shouldn't be pushed so far as to just be pure evil. Even the manga gave her a redemption arc, some of y'all are being so hateful.

And in that fiest scene we are reminded just how much of a child she is. 😭 A CHILD! A child who was done so dirty by the adults around her. At least in the comics she does get a bit of redemption and hope.
