@thebrainmaze: Why Geese Fly in a V Formation - Geese don't fly in a V formation by chance. By riding the upward air currents created by the bird ahead, they reduce the energy needed to stay airborne, allowing the flock to travel farther. The lead goose rotates regularly to share the effort, making this one of nature's most efficient examples of teamwork and aerodynamic flight.

It seems that the geese of today do not migrate. They just stay local these days.

If you got a problem with Canadian geese, then you’ve got a problem with me. And I suggest you let that marinate!

Do you know when geese fly in a vee why one side is always longer? It's because there are more geese on that side.

I think the V formation mainly helps the geese communicate, keep each other in sight, and see where the leader is going. I’m not convinced it significantly reduces the energy needed to fly. These are not airplanes pushing huge amounts of air, and they’re not trucks creating a powerful draft on a highway. They’re small birds, and I have a hard time believing one can generate enough airflow to make a meaningful difference for the others. Yes, there are studies suggesting otherwise, but history has shown that scientific studies are sometimes revised or even overturned as new evidence emerges. So I’m keeping an open mind, but I’m not convinced yet. I also wonder whether these studies were conducted primarily by aerodynamic engineers or by researchers from other fields.

I don't agree, that hypothesis would be true for a single bird flying in V
