@bloombeyonddiagnosis: I think this is why chronic illness fatigue is so hard to explain. People see you standing. They see you answering emails. They see you making dinner. They see the things you managed to do. They don’t see what those things cost. They don’t see that brushing your teeth felt like a workout. That taking a shower meant you needed to lie down afterward. That making dinner might be the only thing you accomplish all day. They see what got done. They don’t see what it took to do it. And because of that, people assume you’re functioning. When really… You’re surviving on whatever your body has left.
It’s not a motivation issue. It’s an “I can’t physically do it” issue. Able bodied people are starting to piss me off I’m sorry.

People severely underestimate the amount of energy and effort the “pretend they’re fine” part takes

I have to take energy drinks like juice to get through the day when I get like this. I know it’s bad but it’s the only way I can be functional

Laying in bed crying because you’re exhausted and just want to sleep, knowing that not getting any sleep will just make this worse. But you can’t sleep because of the pain/discomfort

Just got the result of my sleep study. I get less than an hour of restful sleep for every eight hours I’m out. According to traditional science, I should be dead.

Yeah no. I am not chronically ill but I do have HORRIBLE insomnia and there’s been many times that I’ve been awake for 3 days. It’s torture. I had to go to school still and was feeling like the floor was uneven and constantly shifting, I was hallucinating due to lack of sleep, I was thinking that I was focusing and then I would realize I wasn’t, I was just really focused on the concept of focusing. All of my skin was buzzing and I was trembling— even my eyes would be shaking. I would speak and not realize I was speaking and have no idea what I’ve said. Longest I was awake was 78 straight hours before doctors would even look into the issue— and it was only because I started failing classes that I was really good at. I DONT know how yall do it. Everyone saying you’re overdramatic. Everyone saying you’re faking cause you look fine even though the floor is shifting beneath your feet. I couldn’t function even at 25%. And you *have* to. And even taking function out of it; it wrecks you on an emotional level. The constant fight between self doubt because even doctors say you’re lying and it can’t be that bad, and “if I was faking it for attention, and everyone and their mother was calling me out on that and ignoring be because they don’t want to encourage that, wouldn’t I have stopped faking by now?” Ruins your nervous system even more. Which in turn negatively affects your disorder. It’s all fucked straight to hell.

I like to use the comparison : it’s like you had to run a marathon unprepared with a cold and then for the next week being questioned why you aren’t performing at your best possible pace because “you look fine”
