As a 58 year old woman, wife, mother, and grandmother I so understand this all. I feel it deeply in my soul. I too have a good man, 2 adult children and I feel as if me leaving would not make sense to anyone except me. That all that they knew or saw growing up would seem like a lie. I have more days behind me than in front of me. Most days I feel like a terrible person for not living life to the fullest but just going through the motions. On autopilot, but at the same time miserable, grateful and mostly existing. I don’t know if leaving is even the right thing to do, so I stay because it’s all I know, 38 years, my entire adult life. I know him like a book but he never even opened mine. I have no family left on my side outside my children. I would be devastated if they weren’t in my life. I am not complaining just saying what I don’t have the nerve to say out loud. Thanks for listening

She very easily could have placed flowers in every windowsill and taken pottery classes while with your Dad. She could have spoke up instead of saying “nothing”. She could have communicated clearly and often. Leaving a man who’s been good to you to find yourself isn’t the answer. I’m sure that good man would understand and help you find yourself again while still standing on your covenant.

Did it myself at 55. Watched an interaction at Walmart parking lot. An old man telling his wife how she did it wrong and never learned. Dismissed on every level. I went home and packed a bag and never went back. Grieved all the years I poured into someone else. Have been my own lover, friend, mother, since. Forgave everyone. This story gave me a true gift. Thank you.

Is it me cause it still sounds like it’s selfish. You lost yourself so blowing up a family to satisfy that need. Instead of working it out with the one person who vowed to do anything for your happiness. Yeah it’s selfish don’t sugar coat it.

a mother's biggest fear is rejection from her children. and we stay way too long for that reason while we slowly slip away.

To have and to hold, till death do we part. A husband is not a boyfriend that you can throw to the side because you get board.

The book sounds like. An anti marriage anti family book which is ok. People should read before getting married because marriage is meant for life and not until u feel otherwise

I felt this one 😢💔😭 It’s so hard when you have kids and all you want is to be a family. You give your all and it just isn’t good enough. Then you choose yourself 🙏🏼 Hang in there to all the people staring over because it gets better ❤️

For anyone judging this woman for leaving, suggesting she’s selfish for not staying in her marriage and “trying” to make it work, remember this: *most women who end up leaving HAVE tried. They’ve tried a million times in a million different ways. Women will give a million and one chances before they stop trying. Women who have “good husbands” don’t just stop talking to them one day. They stop after years of not being heard. And after decades of those marriage patterns being established, it’s more likely than not that things will NEVER change in her marriage. Patterns of behavior don’t lie. So she leaves because she knows things will never change until she chooses change for herself outside of her marriage. Because change within the marriage never worked.

Starting over after a 26 year marriage was the hardest thing I ever did…but it was the best thing for myself. I spent so many years in a silent loveless marriage. Slowly losing who I was. Alive, but not living.

I don’t necessarily blame the men in this scenario because as little girls society teaches us that as adult women we as mothers and wives should be willing and capable of sacrificing our own identity to better provide for our own families and spouses that we don’t always matter.

We had a speaker at work, the first thing she said is “ what would you do if you weren’t afraid “ immediate thought was get a divorce. I had lost myself and couldn’t do it anymore. That was 9 years ago. No regrets

Wow, that’s all so familiar! However, I chose to rewrite my chapter with my husband to make our marriage better! And that has changed our life together to the better! Because I chose to go with till death to us part! I am 69 years old and the last 10 years have been the best years of our marriage of 40 years!

The hardest thing she probably ever did. I did the same after 28 year marriage. It was like a death I mourned for 3 years. I went to therapy year before, during and still now. God helped me and now have this complete peace. He remarried quickly and I bought a home, single and happy where Im at.

I used to be married. I lost myself for years. Now I smile for no reason, laugh with my whole soul, sing loudly, and dance like no one’s watching ❤️Realized how much I missed myself. I love myself as much as I love my kids, no one will ever dim my bright light again
