before my diagnosis I thought I was just depressed, not burned out. as soon as I started feeling a bit better I'd immediately try and push back to my previous productivity, undoing any healing and retriggering burnout. keeping me in burnout for YEARS. burnout is no joke. definitely prioritize recovering.

how do y'all realize you're in burnout and/or get out of it at all? my days blur together so bad i'm worried i've been burnt out for years at this point because in general i've felt the same mentally for so long

It's true, burnout can be after any amount of time and last any amount of time. Totally agree with this strategy.

I treat burnout like a throwing-up flu, where you’re too sick to move. I prioritize nutrition, care, and ease until I recover. The goal of burnout recovery is just to survive until it doesn’t hurt to survive anymore. I totally agree with you on all of this.

I often called it “my soul dying” because I didn’t know what to call it. I just knew I felt like my insides were rotting and shriveling away. That’s my clue that a meltdown is going to happen if I don’t rest immediately. Thank you for posting this!!

as someone with adhd, i struggle A LOT with the lack of feeling of control and autonomy, thinking "i HAVE to x" it automatically paralyze me and making me procrastinate. instead i'm trying to think and ask me "what do i NEED to do?". it can sound dumb changing just a word, but the difference is so big to me, the first one means it's imposed by someone else, meanwhile the second one means is something needed. it helps me so much to be more relaxed (i suffer constant anxiety related to "having" to be productive 24/7) and actually do stuff.

My dad always said after a burnout day the next day is “an emotional hangover” and then you can get started the day after
