I went to a PWI, my brother goes to a HBCU. When I lost my scholarship, the PWI reviewed my family’s financial situation and did everything in its power to keep me in school. My brother’s experience has been FARRR from that. He has waited HOURS in that financial aid office, my family has sent countless letters, endless communications and meetings. The needle barely ever moves. But I will say my school gets 100s of millions from international students so that was a huge leg up for us students who couldn’t afford to pay for the full education

HBCUs exist because they didn’t want black people in all white colleges .. so systemically why would anyone think it’s a perfect system ??? no they can’t operate the same way a pwi would that’s intentional, no they don’t have money to throw at you , no the dorms aren’t going to be top teir because they don’t recieve funding and don’t have legacy the way pwi does… That’s not why we go

My little cousin was unenrolled … she missed the payment date because the account was locked …. Before the final decision came back on the reenrollment she called her second choice , a PWI, and accepted their offer … so sad

People get mad when we are bringing up PWI bc they have LESS issues surrounding stuff like this. They love to call it anti black pointing out that PWI have LESS issues with this and overall have more funding, resources, alumni giving back, top programs etc. They love to hate on PWI but when we say something about HBCU common problems it’s an issue. Pleas explain how I am being anti black stating a fact and wanting an education that won’t be full of stress and struggle, where I get paid to go to school.

As a Hampton alum, I hate that you’re comparing the registration process to what’s happening at Howard. Our processes and procedures aren’t even the same. They’ll drop your courses if your aren’t financially cleared, they wouldn’t drop your enrollment. Stay on topic and focus on what’s happening at Howard’s because it’s not the same.

I was so into going to an hbcu Howard In specific - but than I heard everything going on with the mold in the dorms and than they weren’t offering accommodation or refunds to students. It’s sad that Howard of all colleges is like this but honestly more people need to speak out because Howard has had weird scandals with freshman for the last 5 years (or more idk I only know of since I looked into college)
