I believe every musical genre that is probably considered obsolete or archaic can be brought to limelight if we are collectively in sync when it comes to the creative space. Highlife musical genre to me is reminiscential, it doesn’t strike me as a mere genre, but as an inscription and portrayal of African culture ;especially when it’s being composed or presented by our darling language- “IBIBIO” . I feel blessed each time I ruminate about my roots. Growing up, I have listened to songs composed in our language, and it sends an intensive signal to my subconscious . It’s painted an elucidative picture that those who lived before me actually clenched unto our history, language and culture, etc. This is such a thing to be proud of. From my lens, you can sense the courage , confidence and need for me to come together with the Equalizerz, (one of the most creative people I have ever seen), to create this significant piece; 1920’s.
