In Nigeria the average mid/upper middle class household has a maid, driver, gateman, gardener etc. This is the only place where I’ve seen men don’t want to make their wives lives easier .

my thing is that working in general is like 40-50 hours a week, weekends & holidays off, + pto & sick days. if youre a housewife, youre pretty much always on duty.

It goes deeper than that. It's about resentment of patriarchal expectations. A lot of men resent the "provider" title despite dangling it in front of women like a lure. They don't want to HAVE to go out and put in the hard work and bring the money home with the expectation of sharing it. They're upset at the system but don't want to dismantle it because they are benefitting from it in the ways that make them feel validated. Every option of relief from this system goes against what it means to "be a man" and their ego won't allow them that reprieve. So since they're suffering, the women in their lives must suffer too. No easy outs for them either, despite how illogical it is. It's the way it has been and it's the way it has to be. Because for men with little faith in themselves, little love for themselves, they attach their pride and ego to the one thing they know: being the patriarchy approved version of a man.

What’s crazy, before men got married and were living on their own. They took care of themselves by cooking and cleaning. Soon as they get married, they forget how to do that.
