holy shit you put into words what i’ve been thinking for years. i support trans ppl bc what others do with their lives is none of my business, but i always wondered why leftists seem to prioritize things like gender-affirming care over trying to break unnecessary gender social norms to prevent gender dysphoria in the first place

I support transgender people but I cant lie and say that this hasn't always confused me 😭 ive never mentioned ir or asked cause I thought it was rude but ive never fully wrapped my head around how it wasnt gender stereotypes. idrk what feeling like a girl vs a boy really means tbh. ive never really *felt* like a girl; I just am yknow. whenever transgender people explain it ive still never understood cause it just feels like stereotypes. whats the difference between a person being a feminine man vs a Trans woman? I really dont want to be rude or anything I have trans friends I just really dont understand

People say a woman can be a man because gender is a social construct and when you ask them to define what a woman is they say a person who fits the “characteristics” of one. Meaning there would HAVE to be some sort of gender role

hi! i am a transgender man who loves feminine things. the reason trans people typically engage in stereotypical behaviors is because we still live within a society that will only recognize us as our gender if we present a certain way. trans people shouldn't be any more judged for that choice than cis people are who choose to conform to gender stereotypes to avoid rejection, harassment, or invalidation of their gender. but yes, it is conforming to gender stereotypes, and a perfect world would be where trans ppl wouldnt have to conform to anything to still be viewed as their gender! the things that makes you transgender aren't what you like, wear, or do, but whether your gender identity matches with your body.

One thing I've never been able to wrap my head around, and I'm genuinely curious about, is this: if gender and biological sex are considered distinct, why do so many aspects of medical transition involve changing sex-related characteristics (such as hormones, chest surgery, facial feminisation/masculinisation, or genital surgery)? If gender isn't determined by biological sex, why are sex-based physical changes often seen as affirming someone's gender? Couldn't someone identify as a different gender without changing their body? I'm not trying to make a point here, i'm genuinely interested in how people who support this distinction reconcile those ideas.

its not contradicting when if we dont 'follow the rules' we get told were just faking it, get harassed, discriminated against, and even killed. theres a lot of trans people that do not follow gender roles. trans and queee people in general are more likely to express themselves out of societies roles. most of us wish we wouldnt have to abide by these roles, but we cant deny their existence. i want to believe that you, and most people in the comments, actually want to learn. so, im gonna share my experience. i am transmasculine, i was born a girl but i never felt like i fit in. not because i didnt like playing with dolls or anything, but because i couldnt connect with others. while i grew up, i started hating being a girl, i just didnt like it, it didnt feel right. after a lot of self discovering i realised i am trans. personally, i still like dressing feminine sometimes though. but whenever i do, i get called a faker, people ask what even is the point of me being trans, and i get harassed. but when i dress more masculine, i get told im perpetuating stereotypes, etc, and get harassed. what the fuck would you do when everything you do is wrong? you have to realize that trans people are not the ones enforcing these things, we are victims of them. also, often times trans people explain being trans through gender roles because it is incredibly hard to explain to someone who doesnt experience it. so we have to dumb it down a lot. like, try explaining what being sad feels like to someone whos never felt sad. they wont get it, so you have to dumb it down so much to the point it may not even be the same anymore.

Also, whenever you ask them to define what a woman or man is, they either give you one of these 2 definitions: a woman/man is someone who identifies as a woman/man which is an invalid definition because it is circular reasoning and redundant. OR they’ll claim a woman/man is someone who fits into the societal expectations/role of what a woman/man is, which is regressive and misogynistic. Feminism has been fighting for HUNDREDS of years for women to stop being defined by societal expectations.
