as a girl with autism I actually hate how guys with autism aren't taught that they still have to act a certain way in public or interacting with people 😭 like for me I learned early on that nobody would even respect me if I didn't have perfect behavior, yet many men with autism are NOT taught that lesson bc "boys will be boys!" so they grow up like THIS.

I got accosted by an autistic boy while i was trying to order food. Shit starts early, and no one reprimands them because "oh they don't understand!! they're special needs!" which turns into them becoming adults who don't respect boundaries 😐

For your safety, be as direct as possible. I was SAd by a guy who used his autism as an excuse. Said he didn’t know I didn’t want it. The nicest thing you can do is treat him like anyone else. If he is making you uncomfortable, say “this is making me uncomfortable. Please stop.”

just be very direct. they don't get niceties or pick up on social cues.
"I do not want you to buy me anything"
"we are only friends, stop trying to spoil me"
direct is best in this situation because he's probably confused lol

chose to be nice to the special needs guy who was 5 years older than me and he asked me to his prom (why would you bring a 13 year old to your senior prom???) and he tried to get me to come over to “netflix and chill" and would ask me if i was single every week (i wasnt). he even got his parents to ask me to get with him… i guess they didnt care i was a minor either

as someone who works with children on the spectrum, trust, we get annoyed too. boys are always told “it’s ok they don’t understand” THEY DO!!! OH THEY DO!! everyone has the “oh that’s my baby” mindset when it comes to boys on the spectrum

“You have to tell him” yet there have been multiple cases where someone with mental health problems snap. I don’t blame her for not confronting him, keep you safe first girly

My middle schooler broke down crying yesterday because he was nice to a special needs girl on the first day of school and now she won’t leave him alone, follows him everywhere, touches him constantly and doesn’t stop when he asks… it’s been two weeks and it hasn’t let up. He said he was just trying to be nice and patient but he can’t handle it anymore. Finally had to contact the teachers to ask them to talk to the girl. She’s high functioning but clearly has never been taught boundaries.

I was stalked and had to move to get away from mine. I only treated him politely at work, nothing special. He stalked me for 6 months. I switched jobs and moved to a new apartment.

If it’s an employee I would absolutely tell management. The same happened to me and I mentioned it to my lead in passing and he got him fired next day. He got it in my head that just because he was special needs doesn’t mean that I deserved that and he was so right.

I remember in high school the cheerleaders had lunch in the special needs classrooms like once a month and we had a run down before our first lunch & the teachers told us “boys are boys no matter what their education or language level is- don’t let them disrespect you” THEY KNOW what they are doing idk what age. Thankfully they were all respectful but I kept that info

i’ll say it again and again: special needs EXPLAINS someone’s actions, but it doesn’t excuse them. many of them are capable of learning boundaries and acting appropriately like neurotypical people.

I work I. Special ed you need to very direct and clear about your boundaries straight up tell him to stop that it’s his behavior isn’t okay .

That’s when you realize that actually everyone wasn’t being mean 💀 okay seriously though you need to talk to your manager and ask your manager to “remind” him what harassment is (I’m sure he knows)

happened to me when i was 19. told him no, he wouldn’t stop. he followed me to the bathroom and was slipping notes under the locked door (the employee bathroom). called my dad and he was up there in like 3 minutes. got in dudes face and told him to never speak to me again. he never came back to the store. very thankful i have a scary looking dad.

I had that problem in high school, too 😳 when I finally did tell him gently that he was making me uncomfortable and needed to stay away after he tried to kiss me... he threw a textbook at my head the next time he saw me in the hall. Even though his teaching aides were well aware of the problem before it ever escalated.
