Notice of Error letter certified! This is a federal process that they must follow to rectify the payment situation. If it’s not followed then an attorney has no reason to not accept your case. Also check your CFPB portal to see if they requested an extension.

You may need to contact your Congress person because these things happened in 2008 housing crisis. I a lot of banking regulations have been withdrawn for the consumers.

My state has a consumer division in the Attorney General office. A letter from the AG'S office gets people hopping.

I was going to suggest contacting the AG office, too. Also, in your emails & letter to the mortgage company, stipulate that this screw up is of their doing, not yours, and this had better not cause any adverse/negative effects to your credit rating/reporting.
