I got tested because too many people who had autism kept asking me if I had it turns out my dad is autistic as fuck and my mom has always talked about how similar he and I are in the way we think and operate

I don't think people realize how crazy advantages autism is ESPECIALLY for a social species. an entire chunk of your population that's sensitive to the environment and environmental changes, has the ability to become hyper focused on specific topics to the point of mastery and innovation, and thinks in different ways allowing for greater variety of problem solving.

I don’t really think people who believe that Tylenol and vaccines cause autism believe in evolution or that the earth is older than 6000 years

this is a good reminder that autism being problematic for people in their daily lives is a symptom of the current systems we live in and not a failing of our genetic make up.

as much as I would love this to be true I would have to respectfully disagree, I think it manifested in the same way ADHD did via hunter gathering gene (very interesting rabbit hole btw) being that autism was merely a natural mutation that became advantageous for groups of hominids who lead a more static life style that revolved around recognising weather patterns, analytical thinking for fair primitive resource distribution and generalised logical/ forward thinking individuals, which then due to human advancement, like ADHD, began to show more disadvantageous than advantageous

So my dog is also autistic… I knew it. He hates everyone except for us. Like literally everyone. And he barks none stop until someone carries him.

This is my regular rant about most “disability” is a function of the environment and not the differences in how people function. Back in the day when life was physically intense, and we needed night watchmen, shepherds, and people to do countless repetitive tasks like yarn spinning, forging nails, etc, autism and adhd weren’t as noticeable because there were critical jobs that needed to be done that utilized the strengths of people with those neurologies. And also life in general just catered more to those strengths.
