Honestly, I think hospitals need to have patients sign an agreement upon stepping foot in the hospital. The agreement should say.. if I am disrespectful, aggressive or belligerent, you will immediately be discharged or if it gets physical, immediately get the cops involved and you will be charged. And sued. If you don’t sign, immediately discharged.

It’s all the “you signed up for it” and then the NURSES in the comments agreeing he was being mistreated!! Acting like that?? What happened to no tolerance to workplace violence? Does it stop at just employees or do these patients need a reality check?

I have had nurse managers apologize to patients about the nurse after a verbal assault by that patient…. Nurses do not feel safe in our hospital. Management is the problem. They allow that behavior

The international nurses on our floor are appalled. That type of behavior doesn’t happen/is not tolerated at hospitals in other countries. It happens in the US because it’s allowed.

When I did charge, I AMA’d a number of patients who thought it was “ok” to berate or even lay hands on my nurses. No sir/madam, security escorted them out.

Any other place airport bus stores hotel, If a customer acted that way cops would be there person would be kicked out except a hospital you can spit kick punch yell and curse someone out and apparently it’s ok.

I am the ghetto white nurse, I’ve had nurses come to me to talk to their patients. If they didn’t straighten out I always in a roundabout way reminded them of the AMA process.
