@amandalynndaly: Niche, but hoping this reaches another mama feeling frustrated or overwhelmed because their baby isnt “back to birth weight” yet.

nope I'm ignoring protocol sorry I'm NOT coming in everyday. Having a newborn come in 2 days pp period is insane

This is why so many moms throw away their breastfeeding journey so fast because they’re fear mongered. I remember sobbing in the car with my first after I learned she lost weight since birth.

Drs also use charts based on formula fed babies not breastfed babies. There is a difference. Also wanting you to take a newborn daily around a place where people are actively sick is just mind boggling

Can we also talk about how much that stress will affect their milk production?!

if baby needs to be seen daily, why were mom and baby discharged from the hospital? genuinely wondering why this is the system we have....

Cannot imagine most c-section moms doing daily check ins. I was in so much pain walking to the nicu every day for the first few weeks postpartum but there is a huge difference in making an effort to see your baby vs getting a weight check. Easier to just get a baby scale and send daily pics to the ped.

Not to mention how hard it is to get up and ready to leave the house by a certain time everyday just to get the baby weighed

When I had my son, I was a first-time mom and the doctors did this to me and it seriously affected my mental health. My LC was happy with his feeds, but the pediatrician at the hospital continually told me that there was a problem with his weight. It was so bad that for 2 weeks straight, I sat at home and I cried all the time and worried that my baby was going to die, because that's seriously what they made it sound like to me. When I finally got in with the pediatrician that we were actually going to be seeing, he said everything looked good And that my son seemed to just grow on the slow side ( which now at almost 4 years old, he has continued to do, but he has consistently grown), but at that point I was so far in the anxiety about it that for 3 months I obsessed over his feeding and ended up giving up on breastfeeding because I didn't trust my own body to be able to feed him.

I formula fed for the first couple weeks until my supply started coming in and even though my daughter never dropped very low I was still encouraged to do weighted feeds once we started transitioning to mainly breastmilk. I looked the pediatrician straight in her eyeballs and with no filter asked her if she’d lost her mind. Why would I schlep a screaming infant to a dr office full of covid just to weigh her when I have a scale at home. The office was also 35ish minutes from our house and at that time she didn’t like being in the car. I asked how I would get reimbursed for gas & wear and tear on my car and the pediatrician looked back at me like nobody was home.

This is what happened to me. My 4 month old is the happiest little guy ever! But he dropped a lot of weight at first. Reached birth weight at 2 weeks but every appointment, his doc made me feel like I was starving my baby! I’m still scarred from these appointments. In fact, I stopped feeding at the breast as often so I could measure his intake 😞 yes he’s on the lower % but he is steadily gaining! And is so so happy and reaching all milestones! He even already has a tooth! But as a new mom, it really really damaged me and even still, if he doesn’t finish a bottle, I get anxious

Most peds see breastfeeding babies once a week for the first 2 to 4 weeks. They should be your support system for adequate feedings and consistency in growth.

great advice! One of the best things about having baby #2 and so on was that people were more willing to leave me tf alone but I was also more confident and aggressive 😂 It's your babies and you actually CAN say no or take something with a grain of salt even if providers feel like you can't.

They think all babies are the same my son was in the 99th percentile for weight since he came out and I got told he was OBESE as a baby at 8 pounds 13 oz …. I didn’t know what to do now he’s 8 and he’s perfect not to hit not to small he’s growing great they really worried me as a first time mom with that

IBCLC- peds and their fear mongering over return to birth weight is my pet peeve (they are going off charts based largely on formula fed babies). They think baby should just discharge and BAM birth weight next day 🫠

everyday?! I just had my third baby and at two weeks she didn’t hit birth weight, but the pedi said to come back in a week.. not everyday. That’s insane for baby and newly pp mom.

it infuriates me... all my kids (4) have been born and had jaundice issues, one because of COOMBS and 1 who had latch issues. they requires lights for the first week. the others just regular jaundice that didn't require lights or anything. but each time the push formula supplementation! I over produce at the beginning with each baby. my milk is in and FLOWING by 2-3 days. my babies are full from my milk and colostrum. but they still force supplementation because of the jaundice. with my son I straight up said no... because it doesn't change how much better my babies clear the jaundice, it always takes about 5 days then trends down, and it isn't worth it to me to decrease my amount of breastfeeding for them to have 5mls of formula at 1 day old lol it is so frustrating and it honestly makes me feel like such a failure in my postpartum mind. lol when logic tells me it's okay to say no... I'm pregnant with my 5th baby. and I will decline formula unless absolutely necessary, not because formula is bad, but because my body already gives what is needed for my babies, they poop and pee and all the things. I don't need the extra pressure there lol

I love my newborns pediatrician. She gave me tips on pumping and keeping up my supply until we get the tongue tie corrected and encouraged latching as often as I can to keep the baby used to it.

This!!! If your baby doesn’t go to the NICU it’s not worried about. They’ll check in the first few appointments. All babies lose weight. It’s not your boobs failing!!!!!!!!

My first baby, my son, was a big baby at 9lbs and 5oz and nobody prepared for how much difficulty bigger babies had with sugar regulating and weight loss after they were born. He was jaundiced, had a tongue tie, I had milk supply issues, and he lost so much weight. We had to physically go to the pediatrician almost every single day for the first month of his life. I was also having difficulty trying to recover from a c section. It was the most miserable time of my life and it absolutely ruined my post partum experience. A service needs to be offered to go to the patients house during this time. It was AWFUL.

we had to go for jaundice at day 5 but our pediatrician gives a month to get back to weight before he gets concerned. As long as baby is growing.
