Man praised as an “absolute legend” for helping catch thieves by kicking them off their bikes in London. Footage released by the Met Police showed the officer calling a pedestrian an "absolute legend" after his quick-thinking kick stalled two suspects in black hoodies during an e-bike chase. He pinned down one suspect who fell off although the other escaped. Moments later, another member of the public stepped in to assist them on 28 August. During the arrest, officers discovered a knife in the suspect’s pocket. The intervention is just one of many recent arrests made by London's Met Police during a targeted operation to stop prolific thieves using high-powered e-bikes or mopeds to snatch valuables from Londoners. So far the police have made 187 arrests and seized 157 vehicles in this latest sting. Charges included possession of dangerous weapons, drug-related offences, robbery and theft offences. In areas like Lambeth and Southwark and key tourist and transport hubs like Waterloo and London Bridge, e-bike related crime fell by 22% during February to July. Det Supt Gareth Gilbert, from the Met, said their work is about “staying ahead of criminals.” He added: “Neighbourhood crime is down 14% over the past year with 13,000 fewer phone thefts.” #5news #crime #phonetheft #ebike
