For the John Wicks in the comments, I highly suggest you watch the Mythbusters episode about this. It’s not definitive, but it’s eye opening and you are probably NOT actually John Wick so… stay humble. You’re in danger within 21ft.

“21 feet” is just an arbitrary number… there is no set distance for justified use of deadly force… deadly force is justified when a REASONABLE person would feel there is a IMMINENT threat of death or bodily harm to you or a 3rd person…

I'm FAR FROM being a gun pro but I've seen a story on the 21 ft rule: you're talking to the bad guy, you don't see any weapons, everything seems kosher for the moment, so you're relaxed, the bad guy decides to charge at you (less than 21'), you don't have time to reach, draw, and get a good shot off. . " I can back up as they're charging and draw" what if you don't have any room to back up?

That’s assuming you’re not too fast with a gun, and the attacker is fast af. What if it’s a slow guy and you’re pretty fast. Or the other guy also has a gun but isn’t as fast as you. There’s just too many cases where you having a gun is still useful
