I feel like what they are failing to understand is that its not JUST a label that's similar to masc. yes it means you have more a masculine appearance, but its not just an alternative label. it is part of a lesbian-specific dynamic with femme that is rooted in history where butches would protect lesbian bars against attacks and femmes would protect butches from social harm. while i do understand that in the past there wasnt as big of a distinction between bi and lesbian and that maybe bisexual people used these terms in the past, there is a way larger distinction now. labels like butch, femme, stem, stud, have more meaning and historical context than just describing appearance. there are labels like masc and fem that can be applied to ANYONE, man, woman, gender non-conforming. and, as ive learned from this comment section, stag and doe. there are other options besides using ones that are historically lesbian

Unfortunately, lesbians aren’t able to have anything exclusive to them, and the community proves that over and over. They’ll use biphobic and transphobic “queer history” just to take from us and it’s exhausting. Then tell us to talk to elders as if someone’s age determines disagreement or agreement.

I wish more bi/non lesbian women underwood this with an open mind. And like I get it, when ur queer and figuring urself out you can resonate with a lot of different labels. Once upon a time I identified as bi and started really resonating with the butch label but never claimed it for myself. Yeah turns out it I resonated with it cuz I’m a butch lesbian and was in the trenches of comp-het. People gotta take the time to calmly look inward and investigate why they resonate with certain labels rather than starting a word war with the smallest sect of the queer community who, god forbid, are trying to protect and engage with our own community

I keep having to tell bisexual and STRAIGHT people they aren’t pillow princesses, bottoms, femme, studs, etc. but also telling white women that we can’t be stem/studs bc they’re black specific terms. Idk why some of us have forgotten that butch and futch are words or even just like…chapstick, blue jean, etc. there are so many terms, and not everyone can use every term, idk why that’s so hard for people to get
