Who knew that birds could reach couples to connect?! 🤪 Just kidding. The research that inspired the “bird test,” is absolutely fundamental in understanding connection rooted in empathy. In understanding how we reach and respond to each other. It is everything! The work that I’ve done with families allowed me to hold this foundational language, while also becoming aware of a new kind of empathic reach, that I’ve been calling a Caregiving Bid. My hope is that by giving this type of reach a name, folks may feel like they can better reach and better respond to each other, and overall may feel a sense of dynamic connection and intimacy with each other. I am very excited to share more on this topic and how I have been using it in my work! If you’re interested in more, I encourage you to check out the resources attached to learn more :) PS- the “bird test” was designed to be a joke test amongst couples as part of the trend on TikTok, and I am referencing it in jest as well, I don’t *actually* want anyone to go put their partner thru a relationship test of some kind! Thank you to @gottmaninstitute for giving us this incredible research and language of connection. Undoubtedly it has revolutionized our field to give couples more agency and access to connection. I am so inspired by this work and hope that my contributions may one day amplify this incredibly important language of connection. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼 #BirdTest #GottmanMethod #CaregivingBids #RelationshipPsychology #emotionalconnection @TheGottmanInstitute
