@SalihWilliams-DirtyWater Someone recently asked me, “What’s your WHY?” It made me stop and think because my answer has never been about simply writing books or making films. At my core, I’m a musician. Storytelling didn’t start with a screenplay—it started with music. I grew up in a family with deep roots in music and entertainment. In the ‘80s, I was surrounded by live bands, instruments, rehearsals, and studio conversations. Music wasn’t something we occasionally listened to—it was part of everyday life. One of my earliest memories is sitting with my uncle, Salih Williams, recording music together on cassette tapes long before digital recording existed. Those moments planted a seed that never left me. Today, my uncle is a multi-platinum-selling producer whose work includes Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Bun B, Big Moe, Wreckshop Records, and other Texas artists. Watching people around me create professionally made entertainment made this career feel possible—it wasn’t just a dream; it was something I could actually see. Long before I understood filmmaking, I understood rhythm, emotion, performance, and how music could tell a story without saying a word. That passion eventually grew into books, audiobooks, film, and the TEMPTATIONS™ Universe. Through Levels & Volumes Entertainment, my goal is to build stories that connect emotionally while creating opportunities for other creatives. Looking back, I realize the books and films were never the beginning. Music was. Everything else grew from that foundation. What’s your “WHY?” I’d love to hear it below.
